Corrugated Metal Pipe (CMP) and concrete culverts are frequently used in highway and road construction. These pipes deteriorate and corrode with time, leading to a reduction in the load-carrying capacity of the culvert. Similar to deteriorated bridges that limit the load rating on highways, corroded culverts can lead to unsafe conditions. In extreme cases, the culvert may partially or fully collapse.
QuakeWrap offers a variety of solutions for repair and strengthening of culverts. Our patented StifPipe® technology allows us to build a custom sized pipe that can be used to repair a deteriorated culvert with the slip-lining technique. Others such as the wet layup system have been successfully used to prevent movements at joints in culverts due to freeze/thaw action.
In all cases, QuakeWrap engineers will recommend the most suitable product for the repair. They will design the retrofit including the number and orientation of fibers in each layer of the FRP fabric and will provide sealed engineering drawings for such repairs to the client.
Features & Benefits
Advantages of repair of culverts with FRP include:
Repairs are trenchless, requiring zero or minimal excavation
Minimal increase in wall thickness (typically ¼ inch (5mm))
Ideal for spot repair of only damaged areas (e.g. joints only)
Repairs are fast with minimal downtime
